The Original Farmers Market started in 1934, when local farmers began selling produce from the backs of their trucks on a dirt lot at Third and Fairfax. It has grown into a sprawling market of stalls, grocers and restaurants.

Come early and you'll find regulars reading the paper over coffee, vendors setting out fruit and the whole place moving at an easier pace than later in the day.

It's a place to graze. Pick up pastries, fresh juice or a proper sit-down breakfast, then browse the produce, nuts, spices and candy stalls.

The Grove shopping center is right next door, and the clock tower and trolley make a nice backdrop for a stroll once the shops open.

Parking is in the market's own lots, and it gets busier toward lunchtime and on weekends, so the early bird really does get the best of it.
